All About Microsoft Small Business
Server
Microsoft recognizes
the value that small businesses place on affordable technology
solutions and have developed a product specifically for that
market segment – Windows Small Business Server®.
This solution helps small
businesses be more productive and more secure with an integrated
package of features such as e-mail, internal Web sites, remote
access, mobile device support, file and printer sharing, backup
and restore and more all bundled in an affordable solution.
The Standard edition
of this product includes Windows Server 2003, SharePoint
Services, Exchange Server, Microsoft Outlook 2003, Windows
Server Update Services, and Microsoft Shared Fax.
The Premium edition adds Microsoft
SQL Server Workgroup Edition, Microsoft Internet and Security
Acceleration (ISA) server and Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003.
There are some
differences between Standard Server and Small Business Server
that may impact your specific operation.
Small Business Server limits the
total number of concurrent connections to 75 – hence the “Small
Business” aspect of the package.
Small Business Server provides
access to the Remote Web Workplace, for remote users to connect
and work in the environment, but does not support an actual
Terminal Server Application Server deployment as Standard Server
does.
There can only be one Small
Business Server deployed in a business environment – while you
can add additional servers, they must be of the Standard or
Enterprise server variety.
Microsoft Small
Business Server meets the needs of small business day in and day
out.
It is attractively priced and
provides a bundle of functionality that let small businesses use
the same technologies that are available to large businesses.
This added productivity improves
the competitiveness of small businesses in the marketplace.
